Slab-on-grade thermal bridges: A thermal behavior and solution review

The building industry is responsible for considerable energy consumption and the production of large amounts greenhouse gas emissions worldwide. Hence, reducing heat losses that occur through envelope, especially floor foundations, important. This paper provides an up-to-date review on thermal bridges (TBs), mainly with respect to slab-on-grade TBs. First, different types are defined; then standards used evaluate TBs presented. Common approaches discussed, such as U-value method, equivalent method approach, three-dimensional dynamic method. latter focuses loss foundation soil in existing buildings. Soil’s effect described our case studies showed inversely proportional conductivity. analysis involved present paper. Finally, exterior insulation solutions at ground level presented among those trapezoidal double type can reduce up 65% compared no case. As conclusions, directions further works suggested fill current literature gaps.
